Differing marriage patterns had major effects on the social status of women (varying by region); how there has never been one “traditional definition” of marriage because it changed over time. Marriage is tied to inheritance patterns, which directly affected how often medieval women held political power. Since “A Game of Thrones” was first published in 1996, fans were tantalized by hints about the wider history of Westeros, and brief mentions of the lands beyond it. Nearly 20 years later, these questions were finally answered with a massive sourcebook, The World of Ice and Fire (2014) – presented as an in-universe history textbook, Martin himself estimates that every chapter could sustain a full book narrative unto itself. Charity Auction

Every year, I-CON holds a charity auction and other fundraising endeavors to help support a local charity in line with a cause I-CON holds dear. In the last few years, we have lost a number of members, programming participants, and guests to Cancer, so this year we are proud to be donating the proceeds from the charity auction to “Hope & Heroes,” a charity that funds the life-saving work on childhood cancer and blood disorders at Columbia University Medical Center. We hope that the proceeds help these real life heroes continue their important work.
